Alliance Corporate Risk Management's founder John McLaren-Stewart, who sold his brokerage to Towergate in 2007, has announced his next venture.

The new business, BrightStar Risk Solutions will focus on "reaching entrepreneurs, growing brands and inspired businesses who want to benefit from a broker which truly understands their concerns".

"Bringing the BrightStar brand to the insurance industry has been a focus for the last two years. Insurers have been giving us fantastic support and encouragement and I am delighted to be unveiling it at last," says John McLaren-Stewart.

The company has also launched the BrightStar Club, a business network that brings customers together and offers a range of benefits to its members.

Elsewhere, FirstAssist Insurance Services has strengthened its position as a top five provider in the travel insurance market, with a contract win to provide ONE Underwriting with products and underwriting.

The contract includes the insurewithease and OUL Direct brands. FirstAssist also named Darren Jennings as travel portfolio manager. His responsibilities will include product management and new product development. He will work with Steve Scott, head of travel sales and strategy.
